CFR North location now open to anyone in need of food assistance

Do you struggle with the cost of feeding yourself or your family, or know someone who does? We are excited to announce that CFR’s recently opened north location can help. Both locations are now open to anyone in need of assistance. Our north location (at The Exchange, 3945 10th Ave NW) is open from 5 to 6 p.m. on Mondays and Wednesdays. The south location (at Bethel Lutheran, 810 3rd Ave SE) will continue to operate from 5 to 6:30 p.m. every Monday, Wednesday and Friday. Please share this news with your friends.

CFR opens second food distribution center!

CFR is excited to announce the opening of CFR North — located at 3945 10th Avenue NW, just east of Gage East Apartments. We plan to distribute food to clients from 5 to 6 p.m. every Monday and Wednesday, beginning on August 7. Of course we need to thank Pastor Josh and The Exchange, the owner of the building that will house CFR North. The Exchange has graciously agreed to provide space in their building for food sorting and distribution. Initially, CFR hopes to use the new location to serve the people occupying the Gage East Apartments. As food donations increase and volunteer staffing permits, the plan is to gradually expand operations at this site to serve clients from other nearby neighborhoods on the north side of Rochester.  Volunteers needed: At this point we have some new groups and individuals who have expressed interest in volunteering at CFR North. Please consider sharing your surplus produce with CFR this growing season. These healthy donations are really appreciated by our clients. Items wanted include: Produce should be unwashed, free of mold or decay, and have enough shelf life to remain in good condition for at least 3 days. If possible, please pack your produce in cardboard boxes, crates, or other sturdy containers in order to prevent damage and bruising. Produce donations are accepted in the CFR kitchen on Mondays, Wednesdays or Fridays, between 1 and 4 p.m. For more information call 281-5061.

Thank you, Mayo Clinic

Today we want to say “Thank you, Mayo Clinic,” for the generous support you provide to CFR. Your recent grant award will help replenish the kitchen supplies we need to package and serve the food that our clients depend upon. We are also extremely appreciative of the generous food donations that Mayo Clinic provides and the many staff from Mayo Clinic who volunteer at CFR. Support like this will allow CFR to keep working to reduce hunger in our community.

Thank you Rochester Area Foundation!

Thank you, Rochester Area Foundation, for your generous grant to CFR. Community donations like this allow us to purchase kitchen supplies and equipment that help ensure the safety of the food we serve and the well-being of our clients.

Please consider Community Food Response as you make your charitable contributions this year

Dear Friend, By the end of 2015, thanks to your generosity, Community Food Response (CFR) will have served more than 70,000 meals to almost 30,000 people in the Rochester community. It’s astounding to think that so many of our neighbors are hungry, and that the need is increasing each year. Community Food Response “rescues” an average of 14,600 pounds of prepared food each month –food donated by restaurants, cafeterias, groceries, and bakeries that would have otherwise been discarded. Thanks to our amazing volunteer drivers, food sorters, and distributers, CFR serves more than 800 families in need each month. As the number of those in need in our community continues to grow, our goal of meeting as much of that need as possible presents many challenges. CFR is a not-for-profit, volunteer-led organization, and we rely exclusively on donations and grants to continue operating. Each year, CFR’s largest expense is the $20,000 Read More...
